A Musical Foundation
Education That Extends Beyond the Classroom
For Scott Michael Hamilton, music education is more than an academic credential. It is the foundation for how he approaches rehearsals, performances, collaboration and professional leadership.
Scott earned his Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Montana, graduating summa cum laude. His university studies brought together piano performance, choral music, conducting, musical interpretation and the practical skills required to help individuals and ensembles prepare effectively.
His musical development was shaped by focused piano study with Steven K. Hesla and choral study with David Edmonds. These experiences strengthened Scott’s appreciation for disciplined preparation, musical sensitivity and the collaborative nature of successful performance.
Today, Scott applies that foundation across several professional areas, including collaborative piano, musical theatre, liturgical music, rehearsal preparation and parish administration.
The Work Behind the Music
Three Elements of Musical Leadership
Scott’s approach combines musical knowledge with preparation, communication and the ability to support a shared artistic goal.
Preparation
Effective performance begins before the first rehearsal. Scott studies the score, considers the needs of the performers and prepares the musical details that allow rehearsals to remain focused and productive.
Collaboration
As a collaborative pianist and music director, Scott listens, responds and adjusts in real time. The goal is not simply to play alongside others, but to help create one unified musical presentation.
Leadership
Musical leadership requires clear communication, organization and respect. Scott works to establish a prepared, supportive environment in which individuals and ensembles can do their best work.
Academic Excellence
A Lifelong Commitment to Learning
From his early piano studies in Chinook to his work at the University of Montana, Scott developed his musicianship through consistency, curiosity and disciplined practice.
That dedication continues to inform his work as a pianist, accompanist, conductor, music director and liturgical musician.
